Constant Motion

Newton’s first law of gravity, the Law of Universal Gravitation states that “An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion at a constant speed and in a straight line, unless an unbalanced force acts upon it.” It’s also known as the Law of Inertia. Importantly enough, this same scientific constant applies to the Church. The Church is more than just an institution or organization. The Church cannot be quantified by brick and mortar. The Church, at its base core, is people. Specifically, people united through the blood of Jesus.
1 Timothy 3:15 Paul writes, “but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.” The truth is God’s Word. It’s already been given to us. As time continues to swiftly move toward Jesus’ Second Coming, we, as the Church, need to remain in motion and not let the gravity of society slow us in any way. We must continue to be the “pillar and support of truth” against all the distractions the day brings.

God Is Our Light

Most of us know the beginning of creation. In Genesis 1:3, God's first recorded words are "Let there be light". I mean, it makes sense. Light is vitally important. We cannot survive without it. But here's the CRAZY part. Our light comes from one source: the sun. Even the moon doesn't have its own light. It reflects the light of the sun. The stars we see are suns in other galaxies. So it makes sense that God makes the sun, moon and stars first, right? BUT HE DOESN'T!! Day one was simply...light. Sun, moon, and stars aren't made until...wait for it...day FOUR! So what was the light on day one? We can speculate, but I believe we can find the answer to the light in the beginning at the end. Revelation 21:23 says "And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb." God will be, was, and IS our light. So much so that, in Him, "there is no darkness" (1 John 1:5). When the darkness of the world seems to be creeping in, remember the light of God that you have access to. It is available through His Holy Spirit and even his Word (Psalm 119:105). His light lives in all who call Him Lord and it will drive out the darkness!

Everything Changes

If there’s one thing in this world that never changes, it’s that almost everything changes. Seasons, clothing fads, hairstyles, and a plethora of other things have all changed throughout the years. Some changes have been for the better. April 23, 1985 was not one of those changes. That’s when Coca-Cola decided to shake things up and “new Coke” was born. It lasted 77 days and will live on in the reminder you see every time you buy a can of Coke with words like “original flavor” and “classic”. Now, I DID say ALMOST everything changes. When things in the world begin ebb and flow, I am reminded of Malachi 3:6, which says “I am Yahweh, I do not change”. That may not seem like much. However, in an unstable world, it is an anchor to our souls. Nothing about the Lord changes. He does not change. His Word does not change. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:20 that “For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.” So whenever life gets rocky, remember that. When things seem to be built on shifting sands, stand your ground on the Rock, the Chief Cornerstone. He will be your anchor; your “very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
