Most of us know the beginning of creation. In Genesis 1:3, God's first recorded words are "Let there be light". I mean, it makes sense. Light is vitally important. We cannot survive without it. But here's the CRAZY part. Our light comes from one source: the sun. Even the moon doesn't have its own light. It reflects the light of the sun. The stars we see are suns in other galaxies. So it makes sense that God makes the sun, moon and stars first, right? BUT HE DOESN'T!! Day one was simply...light. Sun, moon, and stars aren't made until...wait for it...day FOUR! So what was the light on day one? We can speculate, but I believe we can find the answer to the light in the beginning at the end. Revelation 21:23 says "And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb." God will be, was, and IS our light. So much so that, in Him, "there is no darkness" (1 John 1:5). When the darkness of the world seems to be creeping in, remember the light of God that you have access to. It is available through His Holy Spirit and even his Word (Psalm 119:105). His light lives in all who call Him Lord and it will drive out the darkness!
