Jesus told his listeners gathered around him on the mount, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.”  That begs the questions for us, are we seekers?  What is a seeker?  Being a seeker speaks about our actions, sitters sit and seekers seek.  Is your walk with Christ at a standstill, is it going nowhere?    If this is so we aren’t seekers.  Seeking also speaks to our attitude, our desires.  The heart of a seeker is one who is hungry for more, to know more, to feel more closely the Spirit in their lives.  The complacent are content with the status quo, to have come only so close and to be satisfied.  It’s as if we have come to the border of the Promised Land and said it is enough to gaze upon its beauty without stepping foot inside.

A seeker also wants to share what they have found, they help to inspire others.  When someone has found something worth finding it isn’t long before others begin to join them.  No one wants to be left out.  Seekers gather others around them.  One of the questions we also must ask ourselves as a church, what do we have to offer seekers?  Seekers aren’t so much seeking entertainment or programs or the latest trends.  The heart of a seeker knows when they have found true gold.  They may be distracted for a moment by fool’s gold, but it won’t take long for them to realize there is nothing of real value here.  Too many groups today are only offering bandages and cosmetics for seekers who are wanting real answers for real hurts and diseases of the soul, they want Jesus.

So we seek seekers.  May we be sure that we are offering them what they truly seek, Christ.
