How serious are you about your Christian walk? The answer to that is tied to the answer for this question, “How much time do you spend in the Bible?” How can we grow in our walk without information, guidance and reassurance? All of those things come from time in the Word. II Timothy 3:16,17 tells us that all scripture is God breathed and profitable for teaching, reproofing, correction and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. So how can we have a productive Christian life without a vital life in the Word.
As I discussed from the pulpit getting into the Word doesn’t mean we have to sign up for courses from a seminary. First we need to simply read. Don’t worry about your depth of knowledge; you won’t understand it the first time through, if you did why study. Let God speak to you through his word. This doesn’t mean we don’t prepare, we prepare with prayer. Ask God to help bring to mind what he has for you to learn. Use a study Bible, talk to someone who knows a little more (like your pastor or Bob Cannon), and dive in. As verses rise to the surface, strike you as interesting, or catch your attention, give them some extra thought. Mediate and memorize those verses that stand out.
