The fact of the resurrection is the single most important event of Christianity. All of our teaching and preaching, the hope that we cling to is based on an empty tomb. I have forgiveness because Christ died for me. I have hope of eternity through the resurrection. This is history. The heart of the resurrection is when it becomes real to me. There are some events that affect us so deeply that the impact goes beyond just a footnote in history.
So the question is which Easter do you celebrate? Is it simply a historical acknowledgment, on the level of celebrating the 4th of July, more a reason to have some fun while giving a nod to history? Or is it a personal matter, something that touches you deep in your soul. The reality is that we need to celebrate both for the truth of the resurrection should lead us to a heartfelt thanks to the Lord.
