How is the church doing? Well, we could always use a few more members, especially young ones. Also there is a need for more money to cover all the things we would love to do. It's easy to measure things by numbers and records and when those numbers are up we feel pretty good about things. It's often the same at home or work. When there's money left at the end of the month it was a pretty good month. When everyone is well and happy life is good. And when things are down we feel that either we have let God down or he has left us down. But is that the measure we are to use?
Jesus pointed out to the Pharisees that while they were so focused on tithing from their gardens they were letting the more important things go. Jesus didn't say those lesser things didn't matter , but that they shouldn't have forgotten what was really important. While having good programs and Bible studies are important, they are only a means to an end. How is your walk with Jesus? The church exists only to praise him and carry out his will. Our biggest question needs to be how our church is helping folks with their walk.
So how are we doing helping you in your walk with Christ? That is what we need to be asking ourselves and what we need to answer. Jesus said that when we put God first and his kingdom all other things will be given to us. Do we have the faith to believe that all those other things might include the church itself? When we are faithful to him, he will be faithful to us.
