“These are hard times we’re living in. Nobody cuts you any slack. We got space age machinery, stone age emotions. Today a man had better watch his back.” Don Henley
Many folks are tending to agree with Don on this one. It is easy to look around from our economy to national security and despair that these are hard times. We Christians need to start praying now for our next president. It doesn’t matter which one, either way they will be facing some big challenges ahead. And Paul often reminded Christians to pray for their leaders. But what do we pray for, for our leaders or even ourselves?
Discernment is the ability to look at the information and make sense of what is happening. We need plenty of discernment to know how we need to see our society and the big issues. What is the Christian response to the issues we face with race and immigration? How can I be Christ to people who are going through economic hard times and families breaking up.
We need patience to hold our tempers when we want to strike out against those who hurt us, and yet we are called to turn the other cheek. What does that even mean in our world today? We need to figure it out. More than ever our world, our society, our neighbors need us to be Christ. These are hard times we are living in, which calls for us to grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ.
