When a person truly feels loved, not just told they are loved, but made to feel it inside, it is a transforming experience. When we understand what it means to be a child of God we find that transforming knowledge. It changes how we see ourselves, how we see others and how we see God. We need to dwell on that knowledge, to meditate on what it means. Some may wonder what good it does to change the way we think about something. Thoughts are powerful and have the ability to change our behavior. When we understand and live our connection to God, we begin to live as he would have us live. Since I am loved, I can now give love. Since someone finds me worth loving, I’m more likely to find that in others around me. And as they experience that transforming love they will pass it along to others and the transformation can grow. We need to share our vision of God, as someone who loves me and gives me worth with others.
This Valentine’s Day determine not just to share a card, flowers, or such things, but to share a belief about God’s transforming love. Long after the flowers have wilted, the card has been thrown in the trash, and the chocolate is eaten and the love of God will continue to transform.
